Autobiography Speech

Hi Year 8,

Here is my autobiography Speech. I recorded this 3-4 minute movie using my I phone which made it really simple to record my speech and upload onto the computer. The topics and information mentioned within my autobiography time-line (the spreadsheet), was transformed into a speech to create this movie.

Please feel free to comment, provide feedback and ask questions about my speech.

  1. Hi Amelia,

I loved the movie (speech). You used great eye contact. I just have a few suggestions regarding speech techniques. I noticed you played with your hair and would scratch your head if you lost your spot in your speech - I would try to avoid doing this, it can be rather distracting. I would also try not to just ‘drop’ the palm cards on the ground after you have read them- this can look a little unprofessional and also results in mixing the order of palm cards, losing your place and enhances nerves and therefore impacts the overall presentation. I noticed a couple of times you lost your place in your speech- from experience, I noticed the more practice; the less this happens... maybe you could try it.
Otherwise, I loved the speech, your excitement was great and the topics mentioned were really interesting. I could tell you were really passionate about what you were talking about.
I also like that you continued your speech after dropping your palm cards...However I would still try to prevent this from happening :-)

I have also published my autobiography speech onto my Blog page. Hope you have a look and comment/ provide feedback.

    Talk soon

  2. Hi Amelia,
(Wow, Sarah... you should be a teacher! That was great feedback).

That was a really good speech Amelia, very enjoyable and kept me interested the whole time. I have few pointers in regards to speech techniques as well.

I would try to avoid the nervous giggle- this can be a little unprofessional and might reduce marks. I also noticed you jumped between topics quite a bit; there wasn’t a logical flow/structure to your speech. From experience, I think the best way to prevent this is to plan a draft of the topics you want to talk about and create a list. Within each topic, bullet point the sub topics you wish to mention. From this rough draft, you can then create a logical flow/structure to the speech.

Other than that, I loved the excitement, loved the topics mentioned- it was really interesting!.... I liked the introduction and the credits slide (you even included the copyright year... that’s great- very realistic!). However, like Sarah commented, I’d try not to drop the palm cards after reading them- it was a little distracting; but I also like that you continued reading after your dropped all of your palm cards :-)

Hope you guys check out my speech. I published it on my Blog page.

    Will. C.
